Building a house in the Sandbox Metaverse: A simplified guide

In Sandbox Metaverse, users are able to create anything they want-including houses. If you’re new to the world and aren’t sure where to start, this guide is for you. We’ll walk you through the basics of how to build the house in Sandbox. Let’s get started.

What is Sandbox Metaverse?

Sandbox Metaverse is a virtual world where users can create anything they want. It is based on blockchain technology, which makes it secure and transparent. In Sandbox, users can be anyone they want to be and do anything they want to do. In addition, users can create their own virtual reality (VR) experiences, for example owning a piece of land and building a dream house.

How to build a house in Sandbox

Building a house in Sandbox is easy when you know how. You could of course by a premade house, but here we will look at a few steps to building a ‘new’ house in Sandbox Metaverse:

  • Step One: Find land for sale

This can be done one of two ways. First via an initial offering directly from Sandbox during one of their public property sales. These are announced publicly in the official Sandbox communities and vary in frequency. Or, via a secondary market such as OpenSea.io, where existing owners can sell land they have which vary in size, shape and location. When looking at a Sandbox map, grey (standard) and yellow (premium) areas are land/estates that are available for purchase (i.e. direct via Sandbox) and green area areas are owned by someone else that may be available for purchase (i.e. typvialy via Opensea.io).

  • Step Two: Buy land

Pick what land you would like to purchase and complete the transaction, either directly via Sandbox or from the secondary market. Buying land via Sandbox involves creating a Sandbox account, MetaMask account, having an appropriate ‘wallet’ and using SAND tokens to purchase the land and ETH to pay for any transaction fees. Buying via Opensea.io may sounds simpler but ultimately accessing or building on the land you have bought will require accounts to access Sandbox, etc. as well as associated accounts on Opensea.io.

  • Step Three: Start building your house

Now that you have your land, you can pretty much build or put whatever you want on it. In this instance we’re looking at building a house. You will either need to become familiar with a number of tools for building digital assets and items (such as buildings), or hire a designer / developer to build them for you (these can be found on sites such as www.fiver.com).

Some tools that enable you to build and design assets are VoxEdit and GameMaker. At this point the design and scale of your house is unlimited and it will purely depend on your abilities with said tools as well as vision for how the house will look. Many building in the Sandbox imitate reality (i.e. rebuilding my family home), but others are historical, futuristic or completely new designs and concepts.

  • Step Four: Furnish your house

Similar to the process of building your home, you will now need to furnish it, and this can be done by either building digital assets (such as fireplaces, chairs, tables, etc.) and placing them where desired within the house. Alternatively, your can pay a designer to build these digital assets (which again could be found on www.fiverr.com) or buy available items within the metaverse.

  • Step Five: Utilize your new house!

Once you have built and furnished your house, you have options on how to use it. How example, you can prune and maintain it, you can invite others to come explore and admire your work, or alternative you can host experiences (galleries, interactive tours, educational lessons, etc.), rent out your house and land to people or advertisers, Farm for GEMs, or hold and sell your house and land, similar to traditional real estate, looking for some appreciation in the value of the land you own.
