Lamp shades have been having a design moment for a while now. And I’m here for it! Give me all the colors, folds and textures! Decorative lampshades in particular are so much fun because they add a personal touch to a space. They are like little works of art. And that’s exactly what I had in mind when I busted out my paintbrushes and decided to give this shade in my teenage daughter’s bedroom an Argyle style. Inspired by the Miu Miu jacket Taylor Swift wore for her Lover album photoshoot, this handmade lampshade couldn’t be more fun in her whimsical space, and it was. very easy Implement!
Love me quick and easy DIY project! You can check out how simple it is to create this pattern On this reel here. But basically, if you can cut out a diamond shape to use as a stencil, you’re golden.
DIY details: After drawing the pattern around the shade, I used acrylic paint and some latex wall paint (the colors used in the mural) to fill in the diamonds. A little tip – use a dry paintbrush to prevent the paint from bleeding (unless of course you want more of a watercolor effect). The lighter colors needed two coats to cover, but one coat was enough for the darker colours.
From start to finish it took about 2 hours, and I couldn’t be more in love with the finished look! I’ve always loved the classic argyle pattern, and this happy color palette gives it a cheery vibe. Paired with the mural, it’s just all kinds of good. And most importantly, my girl loves it!
Slowly but surely her bedroom is coming together, and it’s been so much fun working with her to bring her ideas to life. She may be out of college in a year, but she has already told me that I am absolutely not allowed to paint on this mural. Fine by me, her room is one of the happiest rooms in our house!
The hand-painted murals can be *emotionally* difficult to paint, but the lampshades are easily replaceable. 🙂 However, if you are not quite ready to try your hand at drawing one……..
1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 – 6 – 7 – 8
There are so many adorable decorative lampshades out there to grab right now! And a new shade is the easiest and fastest way to breathe new life into an old lamp and give a new perspective to the space!
It’s hard to pick a favorite among the eight shades above, however no 5 My wheels are spinning. It’s a chandelier shade, and I just know there’s an antique chandelier out there somewhere that’s just dying for a colorful update! 😉 Can you imagine how awesome that is?!
I’m also a huge fan of the classic look of the No. 6because it reminds me of the lamp shades in the My bedroom. And you won’t believe how good the price is for the size!
What are your thoughts on patterned shades? Love them or leave them?
It’s rounded up a bit more here…..
