History and modern additions of the elements ebb and flow in a Maryland home by the water

This East Coast Maryland property enjoys extensive waterfront views and features a modern historic home and a group of detached outbuildings.

It is located on the high point of Wedgone, 20 acres, accessed by a gate flanked by bivolo gas columns topped with gas lamps, and leads to a point overlooking Trippe Creek, which lies just off the River Tred Avon. Cobblestone lanes and covered walkways meander through landscaped grounds dotted with ornamental trees and private gardens.

The original four-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom main house was built in 1938 by Sylvia and John Robinson, community figures in Easton, Maryland. The current owner purchased the property in 2010 and spent over three years doing renovations and additions, installing new wiring, plumbing, insulation, and the roof, which is slated, sanded, and seamed.

Other modern additions include Tennessee stone and black walnut floors, custom brass-plated appliances, custom millwork and built-ins throughout the home. There are high ceilings and views of the creek from Loewen doors and windows.

Spots facing southwest capture stunning sunsets. “Everywhere you look, you have water views,” said the agent. Cornelia Heckenbach to Long & Foster Real Estate.

The large kitchen comes with two hammered copper sinks, custom made copper exhaust fan, granite countertops, Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances. One of the guest bathrooms was outfitted with rare granite, Heckenbach said, with only four slabs available and in use in the home. The stoves have gas inserts on request.

The home is served by a geothermal heating and cooling system with electric backup heating, as well as reverse osmosis, water softener and a full home sound system.

The property also has several outbuildings, including a separate two bedroom, two bathroom studio with patio. A newly constructed detached 3 car garage has a flatlet at the top, which has a bedroom with a balcony overlooking a pond. Adjacent to the saltwater pool is a new pool house with a full kitchen and bathroom, as well as a covered porch. All buildings are accessed from the main house through newly constructed covered walkways with insulated roofs which can be enclosed if desired.

There is also a detached 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage situated in a separate part of the property and refurbished in 2018, with covered porch, 1 car garage and carport. There are two barns, one with insulation and heating, as well as a full bathroom, dog wash area, and room to store boats and RVs. A dock on the creek has a remote controlled boat lift.

The property at 5808 Widgeon Point Lane in Oxford, Maryland is listed for $12.15 million.

“It could be a great family compound for someone who wants privacy,” Heckenbach said.
