Nearly 1,700 homebuyers who purchased units of the salable component in Patra Chawl Goregoan staged a protest on September 14, 2022 demanding immediate possession of their prefab apartments for more than eight years now. The protest was organized outside the headquarters of MHADA in Bandra (East).
According to a moneycontrol.com report, MHADA officials will meet with a technical panel of experts on September 26, 2022 to decide on the commitments of the developers responsible for Redevelopment of Batra Saulmentions the Moneycontrol report, which is expected to report to the Bombay High Court.
All builders will be informed of their responsibility and once each builder makes payment, the No Objection Certificate can be released within eight days. However, MHADA has not provided any specific timetables.
Homebuyers had booked their apartments since 2012 through private developers – namely Ekta, Kalpataru and Sangam Lifespaces, which were responsible for the salable portion of the Patra Chawl redevelopment. The same was supposed to be acquired in 2016, according to homebuyers.
In a statement, the delegation of homebuyers from projects such as Kalpataru Radiance, Ekta Tripolis and The Luxor of Sangam Lifespaces said, “More than 1,700 homebuyers who collectively paid over Rs 3,000 crore to builders, Rs 500 crore towards GST and Rs. Rs 200 crore deprived of stamp duty Seven years ago.”
