Approximately 90 judges are confirmed for the BCIA, which is jointly organized by the architects; Journal sister title Junior civil engineer and the Institution of Civil Engineers, along with a group of senior architects, there are also a number of new regular judges.
Architects and designers lined up to scrutinize entries, including: dRMM Architects director Sadie Morgan; Robert Sargent, Director of Stride Treglown; Max Fordham, senior partner; Nick Crump; Penoyre & Prasad Director Mark Rowe; Chief Architect at HTA Design Maribel Mantecon; Madeline Kessler Principal Architects Madeline Kessler; Grimshaw’s partner Kirsten Lees; Weston Williamson & Associates Christian Bucky. BDP Chair Chris Harding; Allied and partner Bob Morrison Allied.
Among the new judges joining the BCIA process this year: Institution of Civil Engineers President Keith Howells. Jennifer Beston, Network Rail Infrastructure Manager (High Speed); National Network Creation Director Emma Ford; Canal and River Trust Head of Project Delivery John Ward; Thames Water Engineering Director Sharon Duffy; Alan Bunting, Head of Development, British Land.
Junior civil engineer Editor Claire Smith said: ‘The judges will take part face-to-face in judging at the New Civil Engineer’s London office in early September, and in-person interviews are essential to ensure the integrity of the process, so I am delighted to have such high profile industry leaders join us this year.
The full list of judges can be found on the event website But the panels were drawn from clients, government, contractors, architects, consultants and industry stakeholders to ensure integrity during the arbitration process and to consider all aspects of the construction life cycle.
In addition to the new judges, there is also a new corporate category to enter this year with the launch of This year’s venue making initiative An award to celebrate infrastructure projects that create a destination by design.
Entries for the category, as well as the other 18 eligible categories, must be submitted by May 12. Those who are successful in being shortlisted will have an opportunity to present their work to the judges in the first week of September before the winners are announced at a ceremony on 11 October at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
