Ongoing challenges across the virtual, augmented, mixed and expanded reality (VR/AR/MR/XR) industries have tasked some of the world’s largest technology companies with building the interoperable systems, solutions and infrastructure needed to realize the full potential of Metaverse.
The metaverseThe next iteration of communications that combines spatial computing and the Internet, is set to transform both businesses and consumers at high speeds and completely redesign social contracts and business processes.
XR today talking to Vishal Shah, General Manager of XR and Metaverse at LenovoAbout the company’s ThinkReality platform and how it will fuel the growth and expansion of solutions for the development of the Metaverse.
Lenovo remains a leading player in building enterprise-grade metaverse solutions capable of driving digital transformations, connecting remote workers, and streamlining business processes for greater continuity as well as achieving sustainability goals.
Today’s XR: What makes Lenovo ThinkReality a comprehensive metaverse project building system?
Vishal ShahThe Lenovo ThinkReality family of solutions from the Lenovo XR helps accelerate adoption of the next generation of wearable computing — delivering smarter technology to empower smarter workers.
ThinkReality’s non-cloud ecosystem of hardware and software solutions gives organizations more choices in building and deploying XR technologies to improve their business operations.

With our three-pillar approach, we have prioritized delivering the best software, hardware, and services to customers, regardless of the size of the company. We have also seen the fastest adoption across the manufacturing and industry sectors, and for education and training.
Recently, micron the crane ThinkReality technology to manage a fleet of devices to help expand its business in the future. The company’s manufacturing team has implemented ThinkReality in just a few months, putting it in a strong position to deal with the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today’s XR: What are some of the most important emerging technologies needed to build the Metaverse platform for the enterprise?
Vishal ShahAt Lenovo, we see the opportunity to support the world’s vital metaverse ecosystems by providing the building blocks for what we do today: to deliver resilient and secure solutions across core and emerging technologies.
There are several Layers to MetaverseLenovo’s goal is to provide solutions at every stage.
we have the creation layer – How Content is Built – We can see how interest in the Metaverse is driving up job opportunities for 3D artists and engineers today. Lenovo has the capabilities to provide hardware and services to help fuel this category.
There is, too optical layer3D applications and tools develop next generation solutions. We have an impressive ecosystem of partners and Independent Service Vendors (ISVs) that fit into this category, and they are also core partners in Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Spaces. XR . Developer Program.
For content delivery, 3D workflows move to the cloud to provide networked access to critical data, remote viewing, bulk storage, and e-commerce.
The conduction layer It is where distributed computing is an important component of enabling greater utility of the device. Lenovo’s ThinkReality XR solutions, ThinkShield security solutions, and ThinkEdge edge computing solutions and services play an important role here.
Display devices such as Lenovo VR S3 Headset and us A3 smart glasses They allow us to interact within the Metaverse, and 3D hardware is also becoming more prevalent and is seen by many as one of the main tools to fully experience it.
Today’s XR: Can you tell us more about ThinkReality’s mobile device management (MDM) platform and why it’s key to helping companies manage their metaverse solutions?
Vishal ShahThe Lenovo Cloud Portal ThinkReality platform is designed to manage AR/VR devices along with the content and applications for these devices. With it, users can access development tools to create or customize applications, manage and store assets, and publish content to devices.
The dashboard allows users to view all users, active devices, published applications, and types of applications in use on a single screen, while User Manager allows IT administrators to invite new users to the portal, assign specific roles to users, update user information, and change user roles as needed.
Portal’s Device Manager also allows IT administrators to add new devices, view all devices in the organization—even for third-party devices—and confirm system authentication and configure settings remotely for devices connected over the Internet.
Application Manager also allows IT administrators to add applications to the platform and publish them to specific users or user groups, where they are installed automatically.
Finally, the Dev Portal provides IT administrators with access to a software development kit (SDK), extendable sample applications, and tools to build AR and VR applications and view regular updates to the SDK and platform.
Today’s XR: How has Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Spaces enabled the development of Metaverse solutions and what benchmarks have contributed to Lenovo and the larger industry in general?
Vishal Shah: With proven technology, Snapdragon . Spaces It provides an open, horizontal cross-device ecosystem and platform to bring developer ideas to life and revolutionize the capabilities of augmented reality.
The first devices to market Snapdragon Spaces are now available in an upgraded toolkit includes Lenovo ThinkReality A3 smart glasses along with Motorola edge +. The two devices pair seamlessly to give developers full access to Snapdragon Spaces and endless exploration opportunities.
Lenovo’s partnership with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Spaces supports the development of augmented reality applications and helps grow the enterprise augmented reality market. This enabled the creation of Metaverse solutions by offering developers an understanding of the environment to build AR experiences for headphones or smart glasses that combine elements from the virtual and real world.
Snapdragon Spaces reduces developer friction by providing a unified set of augmented reality features that are independent of device manufacturers. It is also compatible with Khronos OpenXR Specifications to enable applicability and is the first head-worn AR platform optimized for smartphone-tethered AR glasses with an OpenXR-compatible runtime.
The platform allows developers to create 3D AR eyewear applications from scratch, or add head-worn augmented reality features to existing Android smartphone apps to deliver a unified, multi-screen experience between a 2D smartphone screen and a real 3D world.
Today’s XR: Do you see the need for greater interoperability between your company and others as they advance into the Metaverse? Where does Lenovo see mutual cooperation as ideal?
Vishal Shah: Absolutely! Interoperability is key Metaverse development is open and more valuable. The most important initiative currently is a common set of standards for XR application developers because it will accelerate innovation in this area, along with the ability of other companies to expand into the Metaverse.
This is why Lenovo strongly supports Snapdragon Spaces. Since its inception nearly four years ago, our ThinkReality team has been dedicated to the mission of making it easy to build, deploy, and manage XR solutions to help our customers scale them across the enterprise. We believe that isolated, systemic, and software-centric platforms will not achieve today’s growing vision of what the Metaverse can mean for businesses and consumers.
