The new library at Magdalene College 2022
Built at Magdalene College for the University of Cambridge, the new library is a library brick The wooden structure indicates the historic architecture of the campus. Golden balconies and balustrades line the tower and contrast with the gray of the wood, while the inner ticket hall features text-carved walls and paneled ceilings.

Located in the valley of the river in HampshireThis country house houses a number of Cement Volumes set on a flint-clad “habitable wall”. The house is organized via a subtly sloping site that allows each of its interior spaces to overlook the surrounding landscape.
The home’s monolithic exterior contrasts with interior walls lined with French oak that frame full-height windows. The interior spaces have been kept relatively small allowing parts of the house to be closed off and confined when not in use by the resident’s extended family.

Sultan Nazrin Shah Center, 2018
pebble The Nazrin Shah Center of Niall McLaughlin Architects featured stone fins and windows, which was designed for Oxford University’s Worcester College.
Featuring a lecture theatre, student learning areas, seminar spaces, and a dance studio, the structure is located on the college’s heritage-listed campus and features an interior with wooden beams and columns. In 2018, the project was Shortlisted for the Stirling Prize.

Elsewhere at Cambridge University, Niall McLaughlin Architects renovated the 1970s building at Jesus College. The project was the result of the same competition that led to the creation of the new library at Magdalene College.
as part of renewalThe studio has restored the building’s existing library and dining area and expanded it with offices, social spaces, student housing, and a student café and bar. The interior has been stripped back to reveal brick and wooden bones, while the exterior of the building has been re-paved in timber and stone.

St. Teresa’s Church and Convent, 2016
In St Teresa’s Church and Priory, a heritage reserve church In Dublin, Niall McLaughlin Architects are tasked with improving and renewal Chapel and monastery on the second floor.
Due to the nature of the building’s sheltered setting, any new additions to the space had to be preserved and aligned with the existing structure, which prompted the studio to develop a design that overlaps with the original walls. ash There is a frame with benches and screens built within the original space, along with a custom-made wooden altar, tent, chair and pulpit.

Bishop Edward King Chapel, 2013

Irish blue limestone house in rural Gulen hut On the south coast of Ireland which Niall McLaughlin Architects designed four monolithic extensions. The studio mirrors the sloping roof profile of the existing cottage with a series of staggered gables that taper into the landscape.
The original body has a white paint finish that distinguishes it from the new gray limestone-clad additions. Courtyards surround and bridge the spaces between each volume.
