One of my favorite paints for finishing and furniture

This post is basically a poem for my lover urethane enamel by Sherwin Williams. I’ve used it a few times now, and it’s become one of my favorite paints to use on decor and furniture.

I recently finished changing my wardrobe (See before here) and chose a gorgeous red (Chinese red from SW’s historical Duron range) with a glossy finish, and once again this paint blew me away!

Looks like I used a paint sprayer, right?! Or maybe it’s like I hired a professional to finish this closet?! But nope. We used ol’ Regular Regulars with a simple roller and brush and ended up with this incredibly delicious finish!

This paint is just as good. It gives a smooth, brush and roller free finish every time.

I was a bit skeptical about getting into this project. I mean, I’m no newbie to Urethane Trim Enamel, but I’ve never used it with a glossy finish. I definitely thought a glossy finish would show some signs. But to my surprise and pleasure, the glossy finish provides the same smooth and gorgeous results as the semi-gloss and satin finishes.

This paint is great for furniture because it tolerates regular wear and tear and is easily wiped off, but it’s also ideal for doors and finishes. I used it on a semi-gloss finish earlier this year on this bedroom entrance project.

While the semi-gloss and gloss finish is great, satin is also a great option. I used it in this furniture makeover My husband’s officeIt hung perfectly. I chose satin here because I wanted this piece to blend into the wall rather than attract too much attention.

But the project that made me fall in love with Urethane Trim Enamel from SW is this Gradient chest of drawers I did this for my daughter’s bedroom a few years ago.

Painting Tips When Using SW . Urethane Trim Enamel

I learned a few things through trial and error on every different project.

– Make sure you have good ventilation If you paint indoors.

– allow to Lots of drying time between coats. This paint takes longer to dry, and you will eventually get the best results if you let each coat dry completely before applying the next.

– a foam roller It seems to be the perfect tool for applying this paint, and a little angel brush with a handle (this It’s my favourite!) Great for nooks and crannies. Paint sprayer is great, but it’s not necessary to achieve great results. On each project shown above, I’ve been rolling and bending by hand.

– You can apply a topcoat, but it’s not really necessary. This paint gives a beautiful, permanent and erasable finish.

Light sanding and use of a primer is needed when painting on glossy finishes.

If you’ve got a furniture renovation or trim project on the horizon, I highly recommend giving Sherwin-Williams Urethane Trim Enamel. do not worry. You don’t have to be a professional to get great results with this paint. So far I have only used this paint on indoor projects, but this paint is indoor/outdoor.
